Yaptırımlar arasında Türkiye’den ithal edilen çeliğe uygulanan gümrük vergisinin 25%’ten 50%’ye yükseltilmesi de vardı. Kardemir ve Erdemir’in toplan ABD’ye çelik ihracatının satışlar içindeki payı oldukça sınırlı. Bu nedenle vergilerdeki revizyonların direk etkilerinin de sınırlı olduğunu söyleyebiliriz. Diğer taraftan haber akışının hisselere pozitif yansıyabileceğini düşünüyoruz.
(=) US to lift recently imposed sanctions against Turkey President Trump announced that US to lift recently imposed sanctions against Turkey thanks to a cease-fire agreement in Syria. Recall that President Trump had stated that US increase the tariffs on Turkish steel products up to 50% in the beginning of the last week. With the recent announcement, tariffs are likely to decline back to 25% level. Among the listed companies, Kardemir does not export to US while Erdemir has been exporting to N. America in a relatively low amount previously– 2% of total sales volume with a strategy to increase its total export volume. Accordingly, the direct impact of tariff revisions are neutral for the companies while the sentiment may be positive on the stock performance on the news-flow.
- Turkey had been exporting annual of 4.8mn tons of steel products to US before the revisions on tariffs which had been comprising almost 10% of total production. An increase in the tariff level in 2018 from 25% to 50% led to an almost 48% decline in export level to US while the latest downward revision was expected to increase export volume again.
